O Super (hu/wo-) man #2: Marija Bozinovska Jones

The era of tangible things has led to the in-formation era, where things are rather dematerialised or disembodied. Conjointly to the consumption of material goods, the tendency to possess information and immaterial things –as lifestyle-centred experiences– has increased. The accelerated pace of our lives has lead to new problems: anxiety, depression, burn-out, workaholism and other addictive behaviours have become symptomatic of our society, generating need for different perspectives and development of new coping strategies.

Inspired by streams of thought that challenge the accelerationist convergence portrayal as a single forward direction of movement, Marija proposes divergence in the form of zen optimisation. Coming to terms with irrational rhythms, rather than fighting against the current speed and information overload. Her proposition tackles the idea of working with the self to encompass supportive, inclusive and solidary environments, while examining the role of emotions our society has come to either undermine or exploit. For the occasion Marija will create a meditative environment: a non-place to be collectively inhabited and an in-between time zone, enabling the necessary break and breathing space for a decelerated state of being.

She will explore moments of bare attention, accompanied with superfoods and slow food consumption; a mindful approach symbolic of a healthy body equals healthy mind expanded to the surrounding. Her departure point will be presentation of GAD** Technologies, a project commissioned for Club Transmediale, engaging with the concept of a fast forward fluidity in an era of amplified technocapitalism and complex geopolitics.

**gad (verb) – to move from one location to another in an apparently random and frivolous manner

‘O Super (hu/wo-) man’ is a journey developed in four episodes, where artists Eloïse Bonneviot, Joey Holder, Janina Lange and Marija Bozinovska Jones will bring their own views in relation to ideas of embodiment, disembodiment, language, abstraction, delusion, progress and the paradoxical relationship between culture, nature and technology. Their propositions will run one after the other and will at times overlap with each other in the space.
Project curated by Gabriela Acha with the support and collaboration of Green Ray.
